TAMPA - If you're wrinkling your nose at the strong smell of smoke in northwest Hillsborough County, you're not alone.
A large muck fire is burning at Lake Park Properties near Van Dyke Road and Dale Mabry Highway in Lutz, said Capt. Ray Yeakley, spokesman for Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
A muck fire burns the soil layer, such as peat or duff, usually in a dry lake bed or dry wetlands area, Yeakley said. Firefighters don't know the cause of this one.
The fire is producing lots of smoke but poses no threat to homes or businesses, Yeakley said. The fire could last several days.
People with respiratory problems, young children and older adults may want to stay indoors until the smoke clears.
