Police: Clearwater man was speeding in fatal crash

CLEARWATER - A Clearwater man was speeding when he hit a tree and nearly split his car in half, police say.
Raul Rivera, 20, of 117 W. Grapefruit Circle, died in the crash, Clearwater police spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.
Rivera was driving a 2006 Dodge Charger south on Park Place near Drew Street at 4:39 p.m. Sunday when he lost control on a curve and struck an oak tree in the median, Watts said.
Rivera was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
