MALABAR, Fla. - Workers at a Space Coast project site have uncovered teeth and bone fragments believed to be up to 5,000 years old.

The items were found in the last month in Malabar at the site of an area to be flooded to create Lake Lawton.

The human remains have been reburied. Thousands of other items, including fish hooks and tools believed to be fashioned by American Indians from bones, have been sent to a laboratory.

Work at the site has stalled as federal officials negotiate with the Seminole and Miccosukee tribes over how to proceed.
