TAMPA - Progress Energy Florida reported an 8,000 net decrease in the average number of customers between January and March compared with the year-ago period but posted first-quarter earnings per share today of 33 cents, compared with 26 cents last year.
Parent company Progress Energy Inc. of Raleigh, N.C., said it would complete the repowering of its Bartow Plant from oil to natural gas in June and continue environmental and efficiency upgrades at its Crystal River Plant.
The comments accompanied first-quarter earnings reports in which Progress Energy Inc. said it was on track for 2009 earnings of between $2.95 to $3.15 a share.
Progress Energy Inc. reported an 18,000 net increase in the average number of customers for the first quarter compared with last year.
Progress Energy Inc. reported ongoing first-quarter earnings of $182 million or 66 cents a share compared with $148 million or 56 cents a share a year ago.
