TAMPA - USC's Pete Carroll, LSU's Les Miles, Georgia's Mark Richt, Michigan's Rich Rodriguez and USF's Jim Leavitt.
What do all these football coaches have in common? Well, they all haven't won a conference title, so that's not it. They all run sub 6-second 40s? Not sure about that one.
Nope, they all have their own Twitter page. Leavitt (@jimleavitt) is the latest college coach to join the Twitter craze, that also includes Tennessee's Lane Kiffin, West Virginia's Bill Stewart and Southern Miss' Larry Fedora along with basketball coaches John Calipari, Tom Crean and Scott Drew.
Carroll has running dialogues with Will Ferrell, while Miles has said he will "Tweet" before games and at halftime of games. Individuals are limited to only 140 characters, so Leavitt could probably "Tweet" his entire post-game press conference. After all, "we good?" leaves him 132 characters.
Leavitt's first post was Tuesday: I am m my way to Phoenix for the fiesta frolic
Leavitt isn't the only member of USF's coaching staff to join Twitter.com. Also, USF fans can follow defensive coordinator Joe Tresey, RB coach Carl Franks, co-OL coach Larry Scott, DL coach Kevin Patrick, special teams coach John Hendrick, co-OL coach Mike Simmonds, WR coach Phil McGeoghan, co-defensive coordinator/LB coach David Blackwell and graduate assistant/TE coach Steve Bird.
