A Pahokee man who used stolen front-end loaders to dislodge ATMs at 11 banks in nine counties, including Polk and Manatee, is in the Leon County Jail, authorities said.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement arrested Nasedra Lumpkin, 33, after a 15-month investigation into the string of ATM thefts the agency said netted more than $1 million and caused $575,000 damage to the banks.
The thefts took place between January and July 2008, the FDLE said.
The agency said Lumpkin would steal front-end loaders from construction sites and use the bucket to pry ATMs from the banks and load the ATMs into a pickup truck. Frequently, the pickups were also stolen, the FDLE said.
Banks in Polk, Manatee, Seminole, Marion, Osceola, Lake, Orange, Indian River and Palm Beach counties were hit, the FDLE said.
Lumpkin is charged with grand theft of more than $100,000, a first-degree felony, and is being held in the Leon County Jail.
