Tampa police identify body found on sidewalk

TAMPA - Police have identified a man found on the sidewalk of East Columbus Drive near North 22nd Street early this morning.
Roosevelt Lorenzo Byrd, 61, was found in a prone position on the sidewalk by a patrol officer about 4 a.m. today. As the officer approached, he saw blood on the man's shirt. Byrd, a transient, had trauma to his upper body. Police would not elaborate.
Tampa Fire Rescue responded, and Byrd was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death, police said. Detectives are investigating this as a homicide.
