A homeless man accused of raping an acquaintance in a Sarasota park has been arrested.
A Sarasota police officer spotted Ulices Serrano, 27, near 10th Street and Orange Avenue on Wednesday afternoon, ordered him to stop and found a steak knife in his jeans pocket, according to the arrest report.
Serrano is charged with kidnapping and sexual battery in connection with an attack Saturday in the 1000 block of Gillespie Avenue. A woman was walking through Gillespie Park when she saw Serrano, whom she had known for a few years, police said. The woman told police Serrano seemed intoxicated and that when she tried to walk away from him, he grabbed her by her hair, pulled her into a ditch, and hit and raped her.
The victim picked Serrano from a photo lineup, police said.
