TAMPA - With City Councilman Tom Scott declaring his candidacy for mayor, the sprawling district he represents is wide-open for a challenge in the 2011 municipal elections.
Lynette "Tracee" Judge, who ran unsuccessfully against Scott in the 2007 election, filed paperwork Monday to run for Tampa City Council District 5, which comprises East Tampa, Ybor City and parts of West Tampa.
Judge has never held public office but has volunteered on political campaigns for former state Sen. Les Miller and Tampa Councilwoman Gwen Miller, his wife.
In the 2007 municipal election, Judge placed third in a three-way race against Scott and community activist Frank A. Reddick, garnering 13 percent of the vote.
Council members serve four-year terms and are paid $40,000 a year.
The city election will be in March 2011.
