DADE CITY - Cal-Maine Foods, the nation's largest egg distributor, has moved administrative offices for its Florida operations to the Dade City Business Center.
Jim Guedry, president of the business center, said the company has rented 5,400 square feet of office space in the facility on U.S. 301.
"We've made some acquisitions in Florida over the last couple of years, and we needed some office space to consolidate our administrative functions," Chief Financial Officer Tim Dawson said.
Cal-Maine acquired Zephyr Egg Company, which included the Florida franchise for Eggland's Best eggs, in June 2008. Those assets included about 2 million laying hens, two egg processing plants, a feed mill and a fleet of delivery trucks.
In December, Cal-Maine purchased Dover-based Tampa Farm Service and its 4 million hens. The company also owns Hillandale Farms of Florida, in Bushnell.
"We picked the business center mainly because it was centrally located for all our production centers," Dawson said.
Based in Jackson, Miss., Cal-Maine is the largest producer and distributor of fresh eggs in the United States and operates in 29 states.
