A Tampa man cut the PVC pipes to a person's water softener and tried to remove the unit from the side of a home, Tampa police say.
Officers arrested Robert E. Barnhart, 32, at 3:01 a.m. today at 7108 N. Rome Ave.
He was charged with grand theft.
Officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call at the home after a witness saw Barnhart's vehicle there. The officers saw Barnhart and determined he had cut the pipes.
The person who lives at the home didn't know Barnhart and hadn't given him permission to be in the yard, police say.
