A barricaded man in a Port Richey home who kept the Pasco County sheriff's SWAT team at bay for about six hours succumbed to pills he had taken and passed out before any action was taken, officials said.
The standoff, which started around 3 p.m. after a 911 call of an aggravated battery was made, was in the 11300 block of Zimmerman Road, said sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll. There were no hostages involved, he said.
Until about 9 p.m. the man remained in the home, as deputies tried "to coax him out," Doll said.
During that time, the man, whose name was not released, had taken some pills and either passed out or fell asleep, Doll said.
Deputies went into the home and found the man unresponsive. He was taken to a nearby hospital, Doll said. His condition was unavailable.
