Regarding "Behind the blindfold," Ruth Marcus, Other Views, May 7:
If "empathy" is to be the standard for choosing our next Supreme Court justice, then I have some questions. Will he/she empathize with business owners trying to save their employees' jobs? How about the pro-life doctor discriminated against at work or the professor fired for daring to question Darwinism? What about the mom who challenges her school system's teachings on sexual ethics?
This whole empathy ploy might appear to some to be a Trojan horse to legitimize political bias in the nomination process. Do we want a society where justice is impartial or where "some are more equal than others"?
