TAMPA - In the tradition of Disney's Night of Joy and Universal Studio's Rock the Universe, Busch Gardens Tampa Bay presents Glory at the Gardens, a Christian music festival featuring award-winning rock and contemporary acts over two Saturdays.
The festival begins at 1 p.m. today with performances by alternative rockers Worth Dying For, This Beautiful Republic, Sanctus Real and Need to Breathe. Headliner Relient K takes the Gwazi Park stage at 4 p.m. The concerts are included with park admission.
Guests can see chart-topping acts "then spend the rest of the day watching animals or riding Sheikra," Busch spokeswoman Lauren Hoyt-Williams said.
"Christian music is family friendly, so you don't have to worry about what your kids are going to hear," she said. "The first week is rock oriented, so we expect to see a younger crowd. The second week is for longtime Christian music fans."
Many of the performers are considered crossover artists, meaning their music is played on Christian and mainstream radio. Steven Curtis Chapman, recently named artist of the year at the Dove Awards, will headline the May 16 show. Matthew West, Sarah Groves, Joel Auge and Brandon Heath also will perform.
