ST. PETERSBURG - A Spring Hill couple were seriously injured this afternoon when their Jeep Grand Cherokee was hit by a motorist trying to flee from police, authorities said.
Victor and Kimberly Weaver were taken to Bayfront Medical Center where they were listed in serious but stable condition, police said.
Investigators gave this account of the incident:
About 3:15 p.m., a patrol officer tried to pull over a 1987 Subaru near 10th Avenue North and 16th Street but the driver, 22-year-old Justin Edmunson, refused to stop. Edmunson was speeding when he ran a red light at First Avenue South and 16th Street.
At the intersection, the Subaru struck the Jeep, which flipped.
Edmunson was treated at the scene for minor injuries. He was charged with reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and possession of marijuana, police said.
