Clearwater police seek suspect in attempted abduction

CLEARWATER - Police are searching for a man who tried to abduct a 9-year-old girl during a Mother's Day celebration.
The girl was riding her bicycle at the Palmetto Park Apartments, 1001 N. Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., about 5:30 p.m. Sunday when a man in a white van with dark-tinted windows approached her, police said. He tried to coax the girl inside the van, saying her mother wanted him to take her home, but she cycled away.
The man got out of the van and followed the girl until she was in sight of relatives, then headed back to the vehicle and drove away, police said.
The suspect was described as a black man, age 45 to 50, with a thin build, dark complexion and salt-and-pepper hair. He was wearing glasses, a white shirt and blue jeans.
