CLEARWATER - A Clearwater Fire & Rescue assistant chief on his way to an emergency call this afternoon crashed into another vehicle that pulled into his path, authorities say.
Danny Jones, assistant chief of suppression, helped the motorist from her wrecked vehicle and extinguished flames after her car caught fire near Enterprise Road and Landmark Drive, public safety spokeswoman Elizabeth Watts said.
Jones, a 23-year veteran, was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. The woman, whose name was not immediately available, was taken to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, Watts said.
The woman was pulling out of a Bank of America parking lot about 3:40 p.m. when Jones' vehicle struck her, Watts said. Police cited the woman for failure to yield.
