TALLAHASSEE - A state senator says he has had it with the taxpayer-supported agency that promotes tourism in Florida.
Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, said Tuesday that he's written Gov. Charlie Crist and asked him to veto money in the state budget for Visit Florida. Visit Florida is supported by a $25 million annual contribution from Florida taxpayers.
Fasano says he's upset Visit Florida agreed to pay its recently ousted president a half-million dollars over the next two years as part of a severance package.
Fasano said if the agency can afford those kind of deals it doesn't need tax dollars.
Crist said he's having his budget director follow up on the request.
