A Palmetto woman is being held without bail on child neglect and other charges after deputies said they discovered her driving her children around with a suspended license and a piece of crack cocaine.
Amy Solomon, 39, was booked into the Manatee County Jail on Tuesday after a traffic stop in the 1600 block of East 21st Street, records show. She also is charged with felony possession of cocaine, resisting arrest with violence, driving with a suspended license and giving a false name to law enforcement.
Manatee County deputies pulled over Solomon about 7 p.m. Tuesday for driving in a gold van with an unassigned license tag. She initially said her name was Cassandra Miller, the sheriff's office said.
A deputy wrote her a warning about the tag and asked permission to search the van. Solomon and her children were removed from the vehicle during the search.
During the search, the deputy found a piece of crack cocaine on the floor between the front seats, the sheriff's office said.
Learning she was under arrest, Solomon began fighting with one of the deputies while the other placed her 3- and 4-year-old boys back in the van. The children did not stay in the van and ran toward their mother, causing the deputy to escort them back to the van again, the sheriff's office said.
The deputies warned Solomon she would be zapped with a Taser if she continued to fight, and she was, the sheriff's office said. Once handcuffed, Solomon gave her real name, and deputies discovered her driving record.
