A third case of swine flu has been confirmed in Sarasota County, health department officials said today.
A 6-year-old girl was diagnosed with the H1N1 virus. The girl is a first-grader at Taylor Ranch Elementary in Venice but was not in school while she was sick, officials said.
The girl returned to class Monday and parents of other students at the school have been notified via an automated message.
Sarasota's two other confirmed cases also involve children, ages 2 and 10.
"We expect to see more confirmed cases of H1N1 (swine) flu," Sarasota County epidemiologist Scott Pritchard said in a statement.
Hillsborough County has eight verified cases of swine flu; Pinellas County has confirmed three.
