An unruly student injured two deputies at Leto High School today, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.
According to the sheriff's office, school resource officer Otis Collado responded at about 12:30 p.m. to a report of a student wanting to fight another student. Collado took 16-year-old Andy William Perez to the office.
Shortly afterward, Collado was summoned to the office again, and when he was trying to calm down Perez, Perez punched him in the mouth and arm, according to the sheriff's office.
Collado arrested Perez and put him in the back of the patrol car. According to the sheriff's office, Perez started to kick the car window. When Deputy Ed Ether tried to open the door, Perez kicked the window and the shattering glass broke onto Ether's face.
When deputies searched Perez, they found a small bag of marijuana in his wallet, according to the sheriff's office.
Perez was charged with 2 counts of battery on a law enforcement officer and one count each of disrupting a school function, criminal mischief to a patrol vehicle and possession of marijuana.
