KEY WEST - Senate President Jeff Atwater will run for chief financial officer.
A political source close to Atwater said the announcement will be made on Tuesday, nearly a week after CFO Alex Sink said she will run for governor rather than seek a second term in the Cabinet post. The source didn't want to be identified because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the announcement beforehand.
Atwater, a Republican from North Palm Beach, is market president of Riverside National Bank for Palm Beach and Broward Counties.
He's a fifth generation Floridian whose great-grandfather and great-uncle served as governor.
He was elected to the Senate in 2002 after serving a term in the state House.
