CLEARWATER - Florida State head-coach-in-waiting and offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher spoke in Clearwater Friday evening before a gathering of the Pinellas County Seminoles booster club. Despite speaking to a partisan crowd, Fisher, who pinch-hit at the last moment for Bobby Bowden who is under doctor's orders to stay home due to a severe ear infection, had USF on his mind.
This fall the two schools begin a two-year series at Tallahassee. Next fall USF will host FSU at Raymond James Stadium.
In discussing the 2009 Seminoles' season and what he believes to be one of the hardest schedules in the nation, Fisher noted that when the Bulls come to Doak Campbell Stadium, "It will be their Super Bowl."
After the speaking engagement Fisher laughed when it was suggested that he played a role in FSU scheduling USF. If Bowden retires after this season (he has one more year left on his current pact; the final year of a series of one-year contracts) Fisher would be leading the Seminoles into Tampa in 2012 as FSU's head coach.
"No," Fisher chuckled. "To be honest we needed to fill a hole in the schedule." Fisher went on to rave about the Bulls saying, "I really like what they are doing. They've got a really good team and a great program."
