Lacy close to Jones Jr. bout

Jeff Lacy may only be days away from brokering his first major fight under his newly formed Left Hook Promotions.

The St. Petersburg native and former IBF super middleweight champion said Saturday he is nearing a deal to fight Pensacola's Roy Jones Jr. According to Lacy, that fight will likely take place in August and is "90 percent done."

"I think we're a couple days away," Lacy said. "Probably by Monday or Tuesday we'll have everything settled and tacked down."

Lacy (25-2, 17 KOs) is fresh off of April's major decision victory against Sacramento's Otis Griffin. During that fight, held at the USF Sun Dome, Jones, an eight-time world champion, was seated next to the ring.

Moments prior to that fight, Jones was asked if the result of the Lacy-Griffin bout would have any bearing on a potential fight against Lacy, Jones (53-5, 39 KOs) answered: "None of it."

Some have argued, Griffin proved tougher for Lacy to deal with than expected.

Jones, 40, collected a technical knockout victory against Omar Sheika in March, rebounding from his 12-round, unanimous decision loss to Joe Calzaghe last November.

"The most exciting thing is I'm able to do this under Left Hook Promotions and with Square Ring Promotions at the same time," said Lacy, 32. "It's my second promotional fight and to land this kind of fight, that's the most exciting thing for me. I'm looking to take this company huge. I'm looking at lots of things as far as signing fighters and giving fighters what they're fighting for. I've been there and done that so I wouldn't [mistreat] anybody else."
