TAMPA - A 25-year-old man carjacked a woman Sunday afternoon on Hillsborough Avenue, Tampa police say.
Police say the carjacking was not related to about a half-dozen carjackings in the West Shore area in recent weeks.
Fromon Jenrette approached a 41-year-old woman as she was trying to refill containers at a water station at 4015 E. Hillsborough Ave. He demanded keys to her 1999 Toyota RAV4, and he reached into his waistband to give her the impression he had a handgun, an arrest report states.
Jenrette threatened to shoot the woman, and she told him her keys were inside the vehicle, police say. He drove off in the Toyota.
Officers searched for Jenrette and the vehicle.
They eventually saw him fleeing from it after he lost control and crashed, police say.
His charges include carjacking and fleeing and attempting to elude police.
He remains in Orient Road Jail. No bail has been set.
