FORT LAUDERDALE - Police say they are charging a 12-year-old Florida girl who took her dad's car on a joy ride with grand theft auto after the girl's dad asked them to charge her.
Police tried to stop the girl Monday around 10:30 p.m. after they saw her driving her dad's yellow Nissan without the headlights on. She took the car while her father was visiting her 19-month-old sibling at a hospital. After evading officers, she hit a police car near the hospital.
Plantation police detective Robert Rettig says the girl's father asked to press charges because it is the second time the girl has driven off in the car. No one was hurt during the incident.
