A 16-year-old girl is being evaluated to determine whether she has a broken leg after she was struck by a pickup this morning while retrieving the iPod she had dropped in the street, police said.
Shannon S. Moss was crossing North Nebraska Avenue at Castle Court about 6:15 a.m. when she dropped the music player and went back to retrieve it, Tampa police said. While the girl was in the roadway, a Ford pickup struck her.
The girl was transported to Tampa General Hospital in stable condition, Tampa Fire Rescue said.
Police said the pickup's driver, Kevin R. Taliaferro, 52, was not found to be at fault in the crash but was cited for driving with a suspended license.
