DADE CITY - Warrick Dunn is still giving away houses, even while he ponders whether he'll have a football home this fall.
The Warrick Dunn Foundation provided the down payment on a new home for Shawn Palic and her three children Monday, marking the 86th time Dunn's Home For the Holidays program has assisted a single parent.
Palic was brought to tears when Dunn escorted her into her fully furnished four-bedroom residence as well-wishers stood outside in a steady rain.
Dunn was released along with Derrick Brooks and three other players in a veteran purge by the Buccaneers in February. Like Brooks, the veteran running back is unsure whether he is retired or merely out of work at the moment.
"I've been playing football since I was 7," said Dunn, 34. "I'm not 24 or 25 anymore, but I feel I can still play the game at a high level. I'm starting to figure out the next phase of my life. I've played 12 seasons as a running back at the NFL level - and that's a long time. We'll see what happens in the next few months."
