TALLAHASSEE - Gov. Charlie Crist says he will probably sign a bill environmentalists and growth management advocacy groups say will lead to more sprawl.
Crist said Wednesday that provisions they opposed were watered down in the final version. The bill (SB 360) is favored by builders and developers who say it will help Florida's struggling housing market rebound. That's a good thing, Crist said.
No signing ceremony has been scheduled.
The measure is aimed at channeling growth into dense urban areas by lifting requirements for adequate roads and other transportation and for state approval of large developments.
Critics agree with the concept but say the definition of dense urban areas so broad it will remove the requirements in many rural areas, too.
Editor's Note: A previous version of this Associated Press story contained an error about the signing ceremony.
