Police ID fatally shot driver found in St. Pete crash

A red Dodge pickup truck crashed near Dartmouth Avenue and 44th Street North at 11:48 p.m., coming to rest against a house.

ST. PETERSBURG - Police officers responding to a traffic accident instead found a homicide scene late Wednesday night.
A red Dodge pickup truck crashed near Dartmouth Avenue and 44th Street North at 11:48 p.m., coming to rest against a house. Officers found the driver shot in the upper body. Medical personnel pronounced him dead at the scene.
The victim has been identified as Clifford E. Brown, 30. Brown's last known address is 1238 43rd St. S. He has an extensive criminal history that includes weapons and drug charges.
Investigators believe Brown was shot near the scene where his truck crashed and that there are drug overtones in the case.
Investigators have no suspects at this time.
