LAKEWOOD RANCH - A Manatee County sheriff's deputy was injured after being struck in in her patrol car by a driver who ran a red light at the intersection of State Road 70 and Lakewood Ranch Boulevard Thursday night, according to a Sheriff's report.
Authorities say Chad W. Lowe, 42, ran a red light on State Road 70 going about 60 mph and struck a patrol car driven by Deputy Josetta Coleman about 10 p.m. Thursday.
Coleman's car spun on impact, and she sustained cuts and bruises, said sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow. Coleman was treated and released from Lakewood Ranch Medical Center.
Coleman had been driving southbound on Lakewood Ranch Boulevard and was crossing the S.R. 70 intersection at about 15 mph when the collision occurred, the report said.
Damage to the sheriff's vehicle was listed at $3,000; Lowe's vehicle had about $300 in damage, the report said.
Lowe was issued a citation for running the red light along with several other violations, Bristow said.
