TAMPA - OMG!
Katelyn Blaylock learned an important lesson this week: Don't attempt to text while driving - especially if you're approaching a police car.
It turned out to be a recipe for trouble for the Lutz 18-year-old, who Tampa police say rear-ended a cruiser at Bruce B. Downs and Palm Springs boulevards shortly before 11 a.m. Wednesday.
Officer Tanya Manning was not injured, but Blaylock and her front-seat passenger, Alexis Suda, another 18-year-old from Lutz, suffered minor injuries when the airbags deployed.
After the accident, which caused about $3,000 in damage to both vehicles, the officer discovered the two teens and their friend in the back seat were supposed to be in classes at Freedom High.
Manning cited Blaylock for careless driving, and police delivered the teens to the assistant principal. Their parents also were notified.
