HUDSON - Thanks in large part to aggressive drivers, Little Road will gain another traffic signal, according to county records.
Stoplights should be installed at the Little Road-Seeley Lane intersection in the near future, said Robert Reck, Pasco County traffic operations manager.
A study showed a lot of "correctable crashes" at the intersection involving cars making left turns, as well as right-angle collisions, Reck said.
While the intersection has not logged any fatal crashes, there have been 19 accidents between Jan. 10, 2006, and Nov. 20, 2008, the traffic study shows. The crashes injured 20 people.
When county experts took a closer look at factors leading to crashes, they found aggressive driving was a factor in 17 of the 19 cases, the study indicates.
The data indicates the highest risk for accidents fell between 3 and 5 p.m. The morning commute hours, 7 to 9 a.m., also were hazardous for drivers. Monday had the most crashes.
Rain-slicked pavement was cited as a factor in one accident.
The county is spending about $292,574 to install the mast arms, signals and fiber-optic cables to link the signals to the county network, Reck said.
