The Polk County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a Winter Haven man whose body was found in Saddle Creek Lake today, along with a single-person canoe.
Officials said there does not appear to be any trauma to the body, and no foul play is suspected.
They identified the victim as Dennis Morgan, 63, 403 5th St. S.E. Officials said Morgan is divorced and has an adult son who lives in Winter Haven, whom detectives have notified about his father's death.
It is not clear when Morgan was last seen alive or when he went to the lake, officials said. He was not wearing a life jacket. An autopsy will be performed on Monday.
The sheriff's office says the death appears to be an accident.
Investigators recovered his vehicle parked at the lake. A man kayaking in the lake with his sons discovered the body and overturned canoe about 12:50 p.m. and called authorities, the sheriff's office said.
Saddle Creek Park is situated between Lakeland and Winter Haven. The lake runs north along U.S. 92.
