Grants have been awarded to several area groups:
•The March of Dimes awarded $90,000 to the Healthy Start Coalition of Hillsborough County for the first year of a three-year grant to help save at-risk babies. The program will focus on the overall wellness of mothers of babies in Tampa General Hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
•The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute won three grants for community outreach programs.
The Florida Suncoast Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure awarded $44,340.55 to the Witness Project, a faith-based, culturally competent outreach program that educates the black community about breast cancer.
Another $30,514 went to the Haitian Initiative, which educates Creole-speaking Haitian women in the Tampa Bay area about breast cancer.
Moffitt's Breast Health Education, Screening and Diagnostic Services for Uninsured Women Program received a $67,338 grant. It will be used to serve minority and uninsured women in southeastern Hillsborough County.
