NEW PORT RICHEY - Pasco County sheriff's investigators are looking into a rash of gas thefts that involved more than a few gallons.
Between April 22 and May 10, four gas stations had hundreds to thousands of gallons of gas taken directly from their underground tanks, said sheriff's spokesman Kevin Doll.
Investigators think the thieves reverse-pumped the gas into a tanker truck while the stations were closed. Doll said video surveillance cameras have been no help because the cameras usually aren't pointed at the tank areas.
The four stations that have reported thefts are: Kamala Food Store, 11941 State Road 52, Hudson; the BP gas station at 5736 Land O' Lakes Blvd. in Land O' Lakes, which has been targeted twice; the Land O' Lakes Food Mart at 7715 Land O' Lakes Blvd.; and the Marathon gas station at 27741 State Road 54 in Wesley Chapel.
Anyone with information should call the sheriff's office at (727) 854-2862.
