TAMPA - Tampa Bay Tech and Freedom defeated neighborhood rivals in a football jamboree at Freedom on Friday.
The Titans had little trouble in their 24-7 win against King, while the Patriots pulled out a sloppy 7-0 victory vs. Wharton.
Tech's defense set the tone early when linebacker Sam Jones scooped up a fumble and returned it 37 yards for the first score.
Clouner LaCount made it 16-0 when he ran in from 5 yards. The Titans upped their lead to 24-0 when quarterback Jonathan Williams hit Donta Evans for a 9-yard scoring pass. Tech had successful 2-point conversions after each touchdown.
The Titans' Maurice Hagens rushed for 111 yards on eight carries.
King avoided the shutout when quarterback Dereck Bass scored from 4 yards in the final minute.
After failing to score on its first two possessions despite starting at the Wharton 11- and 32-yard lines, Freedom broke through on its third try.
Quarterback Dustin Rauh hit Jacari Campbell in stride for a 23-yard TD.
