WESLEY CHAPEL - Blake Birch caught touchdown passes of 75 and 69 yards, but his White team lost to Maroon, 45-29, in the Wiregrass Ranch spring game.
Soggy field conditions led to sloppy snap exchanges for the White team, which was comprised of the Bulls offense, leading to three fumbles and points for the Maroon team.
"That was due to the weather, so I'm not too concerned about the turnovers," interim coach Jeremy Shobe said. "We'll have all summer to work on that and we'll continue to get better."
The victory for the Maroon team, which consisted of the Bulls defense, was mainly attributed to the penetration they were able to get against the White's offensive line, putting pressure on the quarterbacks. Shobe, who was the defensive coordinator for the Bulls last year, was pleased with their effort.
"We all know that defense wins championships and our best athletes are on defense" Shobe said. "The strength of our team is our defense and they showed us that tonight."
