TAMPA - Families looking for live music, food, magic tricks and other ways to enjoy the holiday can head to Cotanchobee Park on the Riverwalk today for FreedomFest, a patriotic celebration that kicked off the Memorial Day weekend on Saturday.
The free festival runs from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the park at 601 St. Pete Times Forum Drive. A related Memorial Day service will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday.
Festival visitors will see plenty of red, white and blue, including dozens of flags placed along the Riverwalk in honor of law enforcement officers, firefighters and military personnel killed in the line of duty, along with flags to honor active-duty military personnel.
Hal Mullis of Tampa brought his 18-month-old grandson Burke Bassler to the festivities Saturday.
"We rode our bikes out here. He has enjoyed seeing the music and dancing," Mullis said while the two shared a snow cone.
