Students learn what holiday really means

Chasco Elementary School took time Friday to honor the men and women who serve our country.
The school held a Memorial Day celebration on its campus in Port Richey. Guests of honor at the event included state Sen. Mike Fasano, R-New Port Richey, and Navy Chief Petty Officer Alton Harris, who just finished a six-month tour of duty in Afghanistan.
Fasano reminded the children that the holiday is a time to remember the men and women who dedicate their time to serve our country.
Students from Chasco and Richey elementaries wrote letters to troops overseas, which Fasano collected to mail to a military base in California so they can be prepared and shipped.
