TAMPA - The Girl Scouts of West Central Florida is looking for former members to join its alumni association.
Since it formed a year ago, more then 600 women have joined, but Girl Scouting has been in the Bay area for almost a century, so there are more alumni out there.
The second Girl Scout troop in the United States was formed in 1913 in Tampa as Troop Magnolia 1 by Jessamine Flowers Link at Hyde Park United Methodist Church. There were nine girls in the troop. Since then the Girls Scouts of West Central Florida has grown to serve eight counties.
In honor of the 100th anniversary of Girl Scouts of the USA in 2012, the council has assembled an archive exhibit at the St. Petersburg Museum of History.
Interested alumni should call 1-800-881-4475, ext. 1759, e-mail rpruitt@gswcf.org or go online to www.gswcf.org.
