Pilots of regional aircraft should be paid more than taxi and bus drivers, a business travelers advocacy group suggests in a letter sent to Congress on Tuesday.
The letter, supported by 35 trade groups and companies, followed recent federal hearings about the Feb. 12 Colgan Air crash in Buffalo in February that killed 50 people in an accident in which aircrew competency was questioned.
Seeking improved air safety oversight, the Business Travel Coalition compared wages of taxi drivers with commuter airline crews. In its letter, it said that Av jobs.com puts hourly wages for a regional pilot starting at $12.50 per hour. The co-pilot of the Colgan aircraft that crashed made $23 an hour.
