Suspect in rape of Charlotte County girl found dead in Iowa

PUNTA GORDA - Authorities say a Charlotte County man accused of raping a 9-year-old girl at gunpoint has been found dead in Iowa.

The Charlotte County sheriff's office reports that 43-year-old Kevin Carroll Bordwell's body was found in Hamilton County, Iowa, Wednesday night with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Detectives say Bordwell entered an Englewood home Tuesday afternoon and raped the girl.

Bordwell was wanted on charges of capital sexual battery, burglary with battery and armed burglary. He and his car were located in Iowa after a nationwide alert was issued for him and his Mercury Marquis.

Authorities say it's not clear where Bordwell was headed.
