A Bradenton doctor, already accused of inappropriately touching some of his women patients, was charged in four additional cases today, Bradenton police say.
Now, Gangadhara Rao Chapalamadugu, 61 – who is also known as Dr. C.G. Rao – faces a total of 9 counts of battery, according to the Bradenton Police Department. He was arrested at his Bradenton home, they said.
Meanwhile, investigators will continue interviewing women who say they were inappropriately touched by him, police said.
Chapalmaduggu has had a Bradenton pulmonary and internal medicine practice for decades.
He first came under scrutiny when a patient reported he fondled and groped her breasts and buttocks during an examination, Bradenton police said. Rao was arrested after Bradenton police recorded him in a parking lot apologizing to the woman for his actions.
Some of the women who have contacted police described inappropriate behavior from Rao dating back as much as 20 years when they saw him as juveniles.
The Sarasota Herald Tribune reported that a similar complaint surfaced against Rao in 2002. As a result, Rao agreed to have a female nurse present during all examinations, but police said he failed to follow the order.
