Teaching a young river otter to swim is a lot like teaching a child. Brandon, an orphaned otter who was found in a backyard in the eastern Hillsborough County community of the same name, received his first swimming lesson Thursday at The Florida Aquarium.
Staff members have had to teach him to eat during the nearly three months he has been there. Now they are teaching him to swim - first in a small inflatable children's pool and now in the deeper waters of the otter exhibit.
"He did take to it very well," an aquarium spokesman said.
Brandon is about 7 or 8 months old.
