Don't know what to do next weekend? Why not take a hike.
June 6 is the American Hiking Society's National Trails Day. Enthusiasts want youth and adults to head outside and explore local natural surroundings. The annual event has taken place since 1993.
Locally, there are several specific hiking opportunities to celebrate the day, such as one being held at Brooker Creek Preserve near Tarpon Springs. That hike starts at 10 a.m.
Regardless of the day, there are dozens of other local trails in the greater Tampa Bay area maintained by volunteers from the Suncoast Chapter of the Florida Trails Association. Trails exist for people of all kinds of abilities.
