LAKE MAGDALENE - Eleven seniors will take their place in CDS Prep history on Sunday as the first graduates of Carrollwood Day School's high school branch.
All are continuing to higher education and together have earned more than $350,000 in scholarships, Principal Ryan Kelly said.
Kelly will preside over the first commencement, which features a graduation song a teacher's husband wrote for the school as the recessional. One student will receive a silver trophy, the Patriot Award, which goes to a graduate showing excellent academics, character, leadership and service. Kelly hopes both the song and award become tradition.
The private school started as a preschool in 1981 and later added an elementary and middle school. It formed its high school three years ago with ninth- and 10th-graders. It now offers the intensive International Baccalaureate diploma program, although the graduating class this year followed a traditional curriculum.
