SEBRING - The West all-stars bounced back from an opening-day loss at the FACA Baseball All-Star Classic for a 4-3 victory over the North on Saturday in the third-place matchup at Firemen's Field.
Jesuit's Greg Dupell scored the deciding run in the fifth inning.
Armwood's Robert Benincasa, Hillsborough's David Richardson and Jefferson's Chad Taylor each worked two scoreless innings. Taylor earned the save.
The East beat the South 10-0 in the title game. Steven Rodriguez (South) of Miami Gulliver Prep and Nick Franklin (East) from Altamonte Springs Lake Brantley were named the MVPs.
FOOTBALL: Hudson coach Mark Nash decided against conducting an intrasquad scrimmage to conclude spring practice. Instead, the Cobras held a controlled practice Saturday night with the first-team offense competing against a scout-team defense, and the No. 1 defense against a scout offense.
Senior-to-be Zack Wynn completed 22 of 29 passes for 521 yards and five touchdowns, and rushed for 35 yards and a score. Wynn led Pasco County in passing last season with 2,035 yards and 16 TDs.
