Get ready for the biggest week to date in the 2009 high school football season.

The race for the postseason enters the most critical juncture Friday, as teams across the Bay area fight for their playoff lives in what is the final scheduled week of district play.

For some teams, it comes down to one final big game. For others, they need not only to take care of business themselves, but also get a little help from one of their district foes.

A few Hillsborough and Pasco county teams already have punched their tickets to the postseason. Robinson, Jefferson, Tampa Catholic and Pasco did so with victories this past week, while Sickles wrapped up a postseason berth the previous week.

Which teams will be next? We'll find out soon. Until then, take a look at the playoff scenarios as we break down the postseason races in each district involving Hillsborough and Pasco teams.

CLASS 5A-DISTRICT 5

Key matchups: Plant vs. Chamberlain; Alonso vs. Gaither

Need to know: If Plant and Alonso win, Plant is district champ and Alonso is runner-up. If Plant and Gaither win, Plant is district champ and Chamberlain, Alonso and Gaither will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine runner-up. If Chamberlain and Alonso win, Plant, Chamberlain and Alonso will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine district champ and runner-up. If Chamberlain and Gaither win, Chamberlain is district champ and Plant is runner-up.

CLASS 5A-DISTRICT 6

Key matchup: Newsome vs. Durant

Need to know: If Newsome beats Durant, Newsome is district champ and Plant City is runner-up. If Durant defeats Newsome, a three-way tiebreaker will be played to determine district champ and runner-up.

CLASS 5A-DISTRICT 7

Key matchups: Tampa Bay Tech vs. Wharton; Freedom vs. Brandon

Need to know: If Tampa Bay Tech and Freedom win, Tampa Bay Tech is district champ and Freedom is runner-up. If Tampa Bay Tech and Brandon win, Tampa Bay Tech is district champ and Brandon, Freedom and Wharton will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine runner-up. If Wharton and Freedom win, Tampa Bay Tech, Wharton and Freedom will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine district champ and runner-up. If Wharton and Brandon win, Wharton is district champ and Tampa Bay Tech is runner-up.

CLASS 4A-DISTRICT 6

Key matchup: Wiregrass Ranch vs. Hudson

Need to know: Tarpon Springs has clinched the district title. The Wiregrass Ranch-Hudson winner is the district runner-up.

CLASS 4A-DISTRICT 9

Key matchups: Armwood vs. East Bay; Hillsborough vs. King

Need to know: If Armwood and Hillsborough win, Armwood is district champ and Hillsborough is runner-up. If Armwood and King win, Armwood is district champ and East Bay, Hillsborough and King will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine runner-up. If East Bay and Hillsborough win, Armwood, East Bay and Hillsborough play a three-way tiebreaker to determine district champ and runner-up. If East Bay and King win, East Bay is district champ and Armwood is runner-up.

CLASS 4A-DISTRICT 10

Need to know: Largo has clinched the district title, and Sickles has clinched the runner-up spot.

CLASS 3A-DISTRICT 7

Key matchup: Mitchell vs. Land O' Lakes

Need to know: Pasco has clinched the district title. The Mitchell-Land O'Lakes winner is the district runner-up.

CLASS 3A-DISTRICT 8

Key matchup: Spoto vs. Lakewood

Need to know: Jefferson has clinched the district title. The Spoto-Lakewood winner is the district runner-up.

CLASS 2A-DISTRICT 5

Key matchup: Jesuit vs. St. Pete Catholic

Need to know: Robinson has clinched the district title. Jesuit can claim the runner-up spot with a win. If St. Pete Catholic wins, it will force a three-way tiebreaker between Jesuit, St. Pete Catholic and Middleton for the runner-up spot.

CLASS 2B-DISTRICT 5

Need to know: Tampa Catholic has clinched the district title, and Orlando Lake Highland Prep has clinched the runner-up spot.

CLASS 1A-DISTRICT 6

Key matchups: Berkeley Prep vs. Indian Rocks Christian; Fort Meade vs. CCC

Need to know: If Fort Meade and Berkeley Prep win, Fort Meade is district champ and Berkeley Prep is runner-up. If Berkeley Prep and CCC win, Fort Meade, Berkeley Prep and CCC will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine district champ and runner-up. If Fort Meade and Indian Rocks Christian win, Fort Meade is district champ and Indian Rocks Christian, CCC and Berkeley Prep will play a three-way tiebreaker to determine runner-up. If Indian Rocks Christian and CCC win, CCC is district champ and Fort Meade is runner-up.

CLASS 1B-DISTRICT 5

Need to know: Cambridge Christian, the only Hillsborough or Pasco County team in this district, has been eliminated from playoff contention.

Note: District tiebreakers, if necessary, will be played Nov. 9.
