ST. PETERSBURG - A teenager lost control of his car Monday afternoon and crashed into a concrete mailbox, causing flying debris to break a home's window, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Collin Knapp, 18, of Pinellas Park, was taken to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, said Sgt. Larry Kraus, a FHP spokesman. Knapp didn't have serious injuries, Kraus said.
Knapp was heading west on 62nd Avenue when he lost control of his two-door Acura, Kraus said. Investigators believe Knapp was traveling too fast. The 5 p.m. accident happened at 62nd Avenue and 30th Way, Krauss said.
His car went off the road and struck a raised curb, then hit a concrete mailbox and overturned. Flying debris struck a nearby house and broke a window, Kraus said.
Knapp has been charged with careless driving and having an attached tag that is not assigned to the vehicle, FHP said.
